I am a Mom. Not my son's friend. It is not my job to make him feel good about a decision. It is my job to raise him in the way he should go and the includes teaching him responsibility. I also teach at the college level. I also inform my students that this education is yours and completely your responsibility. Saying that no one told you is a poor excuse since no one is responsible for telling you. You must learn it, seek it out for yourself. I wholeheartedly support your decision.

Thanks for the good thought! I haven't ever really thought about it like that but you are totally right. Whenever I help my daughter look for something she stops looking. I will keep this in mind as a move forward.

I have to say, that it is all well and good to allow children to miss lunch to learn a lesson and one I whole heartedly agree with (I am also lazy).

However, at the school my children attend, if kids forget their lunch they get sent to the canteen (tuckshop) to get some food and the bill comes home to ME!!!!

I love the $2/page idea. I know your post was about teaching your kids lessons, but sometimes those ones where they have to take the responsibility (ie.pay up!) they will remember well also!
I couldnt agree more on letting them learn. My daughter insists on keeping her coat unzipped when waiting for the bus. I have given up this fight, figuring, if she is cold-its only her own fault. She has a nice jacket, but aparently "image" is more important than comfort!
Good luck with your 3! Great blog :)

I used to be the biggest procrastinator. I'd wait to the last minute to get just about everything done. What gem has that given me? The confidence in knowing that I won't buckle just because I'm up against a hard deadline. I will get it done.

Today, I'm not a procrastinator. And I wouldn't trade all my years of procrastination for anything. Being a procrastinator was just what I needed to experience along my Inner Samurai journey. It is one of the things that shaped me into the confident, successful entrepreneur I am now.

Moschel, I see that you now have a blog up! Good for you! And this topic is an important one, developmentally, Allowing children to find out for themselves what can happen if, is so important to the positive development of a child's self esteem. Thanks for a great reminder!

Moschel, LOVE your articles! So well written and so on target to describe how your product can support young children at such an early age how to build self esteem by becoming responsible. I just viewed the demo video. It's great! It really shows perfectly how On Task On Time works and how fun it can be for kids. Kenji must be such a pro at using this!-- Carol
